The Juan Lopez Epicure No. 1 is a Nicaraguan puro, measuring 6x54.

PRESENTATION:
Amazing with a beautiful band, dark wrapper, and a nice oily sheen.

CONSTRUCTION:
Very consistent. firm with no large veins and flawless, with no blemishes.

Pre-light aroma and draw are priceless and literally make me salivate.

FLAVOR:
Slight spice is prevalent throughout the smoke. This med-full bodied cigar has a very distinct leathery flavor that tastes unbelievable. I suppose the only was to describe it, is that tastes like you are chewing on a freshly cured piece of leather. As the smoke progresses, I have found very subtle cocoa notes. I am no expert here, but I would say that this smoke is not overly complex, but hardly should be considered one dimensional.

SMOKE, BURN and DRAW:
The amount of smoke this cigar billows out is something the behold. At about the midway point, when I roll the smoke around the mouth, it leaves a silky feeling on my tongue. It almost feels as if you could chew it. It is extremely aromatic as it swirls around your head.

The burn is nearly flawless. Any issues have been slight and have always corrected themselves within a short time. The ash is a beautiful light gray with peppering. It is tight and holds firm to two inches.

The draw is nearly perfect, with only 1 of the 17 sticks giving me a little tightness, but was still tolerable.

SUMMARY:
I have heard varying opinions on these cigars. Much like everything else, the human pallet is very subjective from one to another. That having been said, smoking these sticks has been a true pleasure. I have smoked every one of them to the nub and walked away with a pleasant lightheadedness that left me feeling accomplished. With each stick smoked, this cigar has continued to march to the top of my list of favorites. There is no question that this is my favorite cigar and well deserving of the high rating it was given by Cigar Aficionado.
